If you enjoy taking photos then Loch Goil is a superb destination. The ‘moods’ of the loch are ever changing, from calm and serene to brooding and moody then back again.  This photo, taken by one of our guests in our first summer season, shows how some days Loch Goil is just like a mirror.

The back drop of mountains, forest and waterfalls changes with the seasons. With our lack of streelights we have impressive dark skies and you may be lucky enough to see and photograph the Northern Lights. Just a mile from Rhumhor are beautiful waterfalls, a true local secret, with a deserted village waiting for those who venture to the top of them.

Of course we have some of the most exciting wildlife in the UK. The loch’s own seal colony seem to relish a photo opportunity and out of the main summer months they can often be seen from the house, bobbing about as if waiting for a photo call.

You have to be more patient if you want to catch a shy red squirrel, and have a little luck on your side to have an elusive pine marten in your lense.

Some of our very first guests went off hiking into the hills behind Rhumhor and came back with some stunning pictures of Golden Eagles, and even if you don’t attempt this hike you can stay on flat ground and will often see buzzards soaring around Loch Goil.

Scotland is famous for its stags and deer, and a walk into the hills within Scotland’s First National Park can produce some unexpected encounters with these beautiful creatures.

Amazing nature is not all we have here though. We have some fine historic buildings in the area. Inveraray Castle just demands to be photographed and the town of Inveraray itself with its quaint white buildings is very pretty.

 

Stopping at Rhumhor means you have the iconic lochside castle of Carrick Castle on your doorstep, just a stroll along the loch.
