A Winter’s View
Here we are once again at the end of the year, looking forward to 2017.
It’s been a busy year here at Rhumhor and as always we’ve continued improving facilities for our guests.
We kicked off last Spring with improvements to the drainage on the guest parking area. The very middle of the parking area had started to sink a little and so we dug out the area, added extra hardcore and a new layer of gravel.
Next we wanted to improve access to our new lochside lawn so that it could be enjoyed by all our guests. The solution to this was a new ‘bridge’ that is both practical and adds character to the lochside area. We’ve had great feedback from guests and it’s been rewarding to see them enjoying the area with its stunning views of Loch Goil.
Once this was completed we added some raised beds to the lochside area. In here we’ve planted a mixture of flowers, including some lovely native foxgloves that the bees adore. We have begun a herb garden so that guests can stroll across and pick some fresh herbs when they are cooking at the house.
Finally towards the end of the year we repainted the family room, the walls are now a deep gold which enhances the splendour of this lovely room with its vaulted ceiling.
We feel honoured to have provided a special place for guests who have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and this year, our first wedding at Rhumhor.
We were delighted that our guests chose to wed at Rhumhor with their family present. As it was such a beautiful day our guests were married on the lochside lawn and used the many different beautiful backdrops available around the village for their wedding photographs.
We have welcomed many families with dogs to Rhumhor this year and it’s been gratifying to see them enjoying an area which provides such great walks. One of these newly opened walks is one that runs through the hills behind the house and back through the village – we’ve christened it the Carrick Circular and it seems the name has stuck! It is part of the new Carrick Estate that stretches far and wide behind Carrick Castle, providing new walks and as the years progress, new areas of forrestry.
We have already started taking bookings for 2017 and we are all set to welcome many more families to this beautiful part of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
So now we will say goodbye to 2016 and wish all our previous, current and future guests a happy and peaceful 2017 – we hope to welcome you to Rhumhor soon…..
One of this week’s guests used to stay at Rhumhor 30 years ago when he was a child and the house was run as a B&B!
We were delighted that he returned to stay at Rhumhor, although obviously now a self catering house rather than a B&B offering individual rooms.
We’ve found this photo taken by the owner’s at that time. Still lovely green surrounding and a few more trees than our photo last year.
Guests who have stayed at Rhumhor over the past couple of months have noticed activity at either end of the village of Carrick Castle.
At the south end of the village a pier has been constructed, and at the Rhumhor end of the village construction of an estate lodge, home and office has been under-way. This is all part of the newly formed Carrick Estate which has meant that hills behind Carrick Castle have been planted for forestry and tracks into the hills improved and in certain areas new tracks installed. The pier will enable harvested timber to be removed by boat, rather than using the road network and large lorries. The new buildings will be used to manage the Estate. The Estate is working on improving bio-diversity which means both natural flora and fauna should benefit and flourish.
A great benefit for guests at Rhumhor are the improvements made to the tracks in the hills behind Carrick Castle. We have always had a good network of tracks for walkers but now these include new entrance access points and improved tracks north and south of Rhumhor.

Up to now guests staying at Rhumhor Holiday Lodge with their dog have had to leave the glen if they wanted to pop out for a drink and a bite to eat at a dog friendly pub.
Great news – this has now changed and The Goil Inn is now dog friendly. The Goil Inn is in the heart of Lochgoilhead village, overlooking Loch Goil.

When you have a special birthday or other special occasion on the horizon you want to celebrate it with the people you love, enjoy your celebrations and have a memorable time.
Having the opportunity to spend time with loved ones, relax, enjoy good food and wine and be away from the stress of day to day life is the perfect recipe for a family celebration be it a birthday, such as a 50th, or perhaps a golden wedding anniversary.
Most people don’t have the room in their own home to host a larger family gathering and while meeting at a restaurant can be great it can be difficult to find one that doesn’t mean some of your guests end up stressed out by traffic and travel.

It’s a much more relaxed way of marking a special occasion, and choosing a special house in a stunning location means that everyone has a memorable time and experiences the benefits of a relaxing break. Often houses can be booked for up to a week which means not just a celebration but a holiday included!
Many of our guests book Rhumhor with their families to celebrate a birthday or a special anniversary. They enjoy using the dining room overlooking Loch Goil for their special meal and of course outside catering is available. Both the drawing room and family room are popular for family games, and there is plenty of room for everyone to get together and watch a film or two together.
Family walks along the loch or to our local waterfalls are very popular as is a trip out on the Loch to see the seal colony. As the house is within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park there are numerous walks and beautiful places to visit.
